"WELCOME TO SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCES-SMS"

Karpagam Charity Trust promoted by the philanthropist Dr.R.Vasanthakumar in the year 1989, had its corpus from the roots of Karpagam Industries. 10% of the net profits of the Industrial groups was contributed towards the corpus. With the available corpus, Karpagam Arts and Science College was established in September 1995. Its sole aim was to impart instruction to the students in the latest theories and technologies. The college saw qualitative and quantitative expansion in the ensuing years. The unstinted efforts during these years enabled it to obtain Accreditation and Autonomy. Under the autonomous status, the courses were designed with a view to broaden the knowledge of the students, impart new skills for employability and develop their personality. During these 14 years the college has grown from strength to strength. To crown it all, the coveted University status has been conferred by the MHRD & UGC in 2008.

This is an official association which comprises departments, "MECHANICAL ENGINEERING", "AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING", "AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING".

"School of Mechanical Sciences", in short "SMS" is a very innovative step taken in favor of the department for all the staff and students.

Lot of initiative has been taken so that SMS will be an "hi-fi" among all the departments of the university.

The steps taken to make SMS work efficiently in the future are:-

E LIBRARY- where the staff publish their materials , other documents in an intranet system so that students can access them anytime.

BLOG - another innovative in which all the current news and events of SMS are published to the world through internet.

SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT - this idea has been proposed specially for the students to develop their soft skills.

CENTER OF EXCELLENCE - this idea brings very experienced personnels from imminent organisations to deliver guest lecturers so that students will gain more academic knowledge.

Our SMS director Dr,G.Karupusami, has proposed the above initiatives. Its our privilege to have him as our motivator, We wish a grand success to his initiatives.

The picture what you see above is the Mechanical Engineering Association logo. Gears play majority role in our Mechanical Engineering. So our logo has been made as gears meshing. MEA stands for "Mechanical Engineering Association". This indicates that MEA is also a part of SMS. Prof.Baburaj is the HOD of Mechanical Engineering Department



The above picture is the logo of Automobile Engineering Department. Normally, Automobile means everything like cycles, bikes, cars, autos etc., But picture of a luxurious car has been taken as the logo. Prof.P.Shanmugasundaram is the HOD of Automobile Engineering Department



The above picture is the logo of Aeronautical Engineering Department. As the name suggests, soaring wings is taken for the logo design. Prof.R.Siva Prakasham, is the HOD of Aeronautical Engineering Department.
