“Open Source in Cloud Applications” Workshop organized by CSE Department

Computer Society of India and CSE Department of Karpagam University organized a Workshop on Open Source in Cloud Applications on 23 – 24 September 2011 at our campus. Twenty five faculty members from various Colleges / Universities attended the program. PG students of Karpagam University also attended and benefited by this program.



Dr. G. Karuppasami, Dean-Faculty of Engineering,  Karpagam University presided over the function. Professor R. Natarajan – Dean  & Placement Coordinator, PSG College of Technology was the Chief-Guest. Prof. Prashant Nair, Vice Chairman, Department of Information Technology, Amrita University was the Guest of Honour.



Mr. Vijay Kumar Nair, CTO & Mr. Anoop Lakshmanan, Technical Architect,  Assyst Inc., USA  conducted the workshop. Prof. P.S. Balamurugan, HOD, CSE was the convenor of this program. Mr. G. Satish Kumar, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was the coordinator for the program. Prof. Vigneshwar Manokar, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, proposed vote of thanks.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SILAMBAM TEAM OF KARPAGAM UNIVRESITY

Our University 'Silambam' Students have participated in the 7th National Silambam Champiomship-2011 held at Pune, Maharastra from 28th September to 2nd October 2011.


They won 14 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 6 bronze medals and first position in group competition, second position in overall Championship.










'All India Silambam Federation’ selected ten students and two staff members from our University to participate in the 2nd World Silambam Championship-2011 tournament which will be held at Nilai Indoor Stadium, Kula Lumpur, Malaysia, from 17th to 23rd December, 2011.

Workshop organized by Industrial Robotics and Automation Centre (IRAC)

A robot is a mechanical or virtual intelligent agent that can perform tasks automatically or with guidance, typically by remote control. In practice a robot is usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by computer and electronic programming. Robots can be autonomous, semi-autonomous or remotely controlled. Robots range from humanoids such as ASIMO and TOPIO to Nano robots, Swarm robots, Industrial robots, mobile and servicing robots.

With an objective of building our own robots, a two day workshop was conducted at Karpagam University on 15th and 16th of October, 2011 by Simple Labs, Chennai. This workshop was organised by Industrial Automation and Robotics Centre (IRAC).

With an overwhelming strength, the function started off with a positive beginning. Dr. A.K. Shaik Dawood, Prof, Mechanical Engineering Department welcomed the gathering.



The chief guest, Mr. R.V. Prakash, Simple Labs, Chennai delivered the inaugural address and conducted the 2 days workshop.


Dr. R. Vasanthakumar - Chancellor of Karpagam University inspired the students by his presidential address.



Dr. G. Karuppusami, Dean - Faculty of Engineering, felicitated the students.




150 students attended the workshop and learned to build their own robots. IRAC has selected 10 students from various Engg disciplines and they will train the other interested students in robotics. A robotics competition is planned in our campus by Mar' 2012.
