Workshop organized by Industrial Robotics and Automation Centre (IRAC)

A robot is a mechanical or virtual intelligent agent that can perform tasks automatically or with guidance, typically by remote control. In practice a robot is usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by computer and electronic programming. Robots can be autonomous, semi-autonomous or remotely controlled. Robots range from humanoids such as ASIMO and TOPIO to Nano robots, Swarm robots, Industrial robots, mobile and servicing robots.

With an objective of building our own robots, a two day workshop was conducted at Karpagam University on 15th and 16th of October, 2011 by Simple Labs, Chennai. This workshop was organised by Industrial Automation and Robotics Centre (IRAC).

With an overwhelming strength, the function started off with a positive beginning. Dr. A.K. Shaik Dawood, Prof, Mechanical Engineering Department welcomed the gathering.

The chief guest, Mr. R.V. Prakash, Simple Labs, Chennai delivered the inaugural address and conducted the 2 days workshop.

Dr. R. Vasanthakumar - Chancellor of Karpagam University inspired the students by his presidential address.

Dr. G. Karuppusami, Dean - Faculty of Engineering, felicitated the students.

150 students attended the workshop and learned to build their own robots. IRAC has selected 10 students from various Engg disciplines and they will train the other interested students in robotics. A robotics competition is planned in our campus by Mar' 2012.
